Longines Flagship Heritage 38.5 mm Watch Review In Black Dial With Low Price

Last year, I spent some time on the Longines Flagship Heritage watch fake, when the watch was available on a silver cream dial, and now the brand has added a black dial to the dial. The original Longines flagship store heritage was inspired by multiple iterations of flagship clothing watches of the same name in the 1950s and 1960s, with a silver dial and gold-plated decoration. This new black dial variant is a further improvement of the watch.

Case & Dial

The very first Longines Flagship was released in 1957, and while this design is not an exact replica of any particular watch, it is an amalgamation of several Flagship models over its years of production. This is not the first time the brand has used this watch as inspiration within the Heritage collection. In 2017, they released a 60th anniversary model, and of course, there is the aforementioned silver-dialed model which bears effectively the same design as this new variant.
The brand does a pretty good job of keeping a balance between honoring its ancestor while giving even casual contemporary buyers what they expect from a dress watch in 2020. Measuring 38.5mm-wide, 10.25mm-thick, and 46mm lug-to-lug, I think Longines got it just right with the case for the Flagship Heritage. The Longines Flagship Heritage L4.795.4.78.2 watch replica with silver dial that I handled last year was versatile, though obviously made more sense while wearing something with a sleeve than without. I think largely the same can be said for the new Longines Flagship Heritage L4.795.4.58.0 replica with black dial, but there is something about black that affords just a little bit more in the way of casual wear.



I’m a fan of the long lugs that give the case (water resistant to 30M) a little bit more wrist presence, and the subtle chamfering is a nice touch. You can see it looks perfectly fine on a 7.5 inch wrist, much more so than many watches with similar case width but shorter lugs would. Much of the appeal of the demure Flagship Heritage lies in the tastefully designed and well-finished dial. With its applied indices, handsome dauphine hands, and 6 o’clock date window, the Flagship Heritage strikes a fine balance of having a classic look that isn’t old-fashioned.
Having touches like a thin strip of lume on the hour and minute hands, or having several layers of AR coating on the underside of the crystal make for small but significant improvements to the wearability of the Flagship Heritage fake. As you can see in the photos, glare is really not much of an issue here which impressed me, as we’re talking about highly polished hands and indices here. Longines recognized that having a mismatching date window would potentially ruin the dial, so I’m glad they went for a black dial with pink-gold accents for the markers, hands, and Longines logo. The glossy black dial matches the background of the date window. The illustration of the seconds function is done in a small seconds configuration. The watch foregoes a traditional subdial in favor of an open sector style design which is broken up by the model name "Flagship." This is probably the single most mid-century evocative design aspect of the watch. The hands, markers, dial, and case are all very traditional, but it is the sector "subdial" which gives the watch a lot of its character and flavor.

L615 Movement

Consistent with the name Flagship, the watch bears the stamp of a caravel in a deep blue and gold enamel on the caseback. This was a prevalent design both on vintage and Heritage Flagship replica models (a caravel was an old merchant ship from the 16th and 17th century, and the flagship was the ship in a fleet which carried the commanding admiral). The solid, closed backside of the case is certainly a nod to vintage watch design, as the exhibition style caseback is more of a modern invention. The watch is powered by the L615 movement which is a derivative of the ETA 2895-2 and sports a nicely signed crown.

The watch is a fitting addition to the now sprawling and diverse Longines Heritage replica collection.
